Dear colleagues

I am writing to draw your attention to the only annual conference for the entire Scottish children’s sector workforce, Meeting of Minds: working together to build better lives for children, being held on 3rd and 4th November 2011 at Hilton Grosvenor Hotel, Edinburgh. We are delighted to be working with City of Edinburgh Council to deliver this unique 2-day event for those working in the children’s sector in Scotland.

As we face the future under a new government and with tighter budgets, the Children in Scotland Annual Conference will look at innovative approaches to partnerships, as well as internal and external across service boundaries. How can collaborative working best support the children’s sector workforce and aid the effective delivery of services for children and young people in Scotland?

The conference offers a unique opportunity to meet and collaborate with policy makers, practitioners and experts from across the sector, to share ideas and knowledge, and to instigate positive change in the lives of Scotland’s children.

Delegates will hear from Jesper Juul, Danish Author and Educator who will examine raising, educating and caring for children in the future, Sue Bruce, Chief Executive, City of Edinburgh Council will look at the way forward for children’s services in challenging times, Andrew Dixon, Chief Executive, Creative Scotland will provide an insight on the new direction for Creative Scotland’s work with children and young people and Ian Davidson, Deputy Director, Local Government Division, Scottish Government, will look at positive outcomes for children. We are also very pleased to welcome back BBC broadcaster Sally McNair in the role of Chair.

With a wide range of plenary sessions, workshops, study visits and breakouts, we are bringing together a range of speakers covering a diverse programme including GIRFEC, Curriculum for Excellence, transitions, play, integrated services, workforce development, funding for the future and a round table discussion looking at a holistic approach to children, and the services they need.
