The Inclusion Zone - St Maurice's High School
St Maurice's High School

The Inclusion Zone is a new resource within St Maurice's High School, continuing many years of work, aimed at building partnerships, and promoting inclusion. The Head Teacher and School Board view The Inclusion Zone as an essential element of the Christian ethos at St Maurice's -a priority is attached to supporting a child and family through difficult times, and guiding them back to playing a full part in the life of their school community.

Accommodated within specially designed premises, this new resource aims to build new partnerships with pupils who are at risk of exclusion, their families, and other agencies. In the sanctuary of The Inclusion Zone pupils receive support with work provided by class teachers, and/or follow themes designed to help them reflect on their relationships with others.

Sixth year pupils have been working with pupils attending The Inclusion Zone in support of the teacher-coordinator Mr Hugh Page. They assist with support for learning, (e.g. supporting use of Successmaker software) and have played an invaluable role in guiding themes of study (racism, sport, and citizenship).

The work of The Inclusion Zone is supported by senior school staff. A current priority for The Inclusion Zone is the production of a newsletter and video for teachers in the school, who may be in a better position to support children in The Inclusion Zone when they have more information.
